Dave Underwood

Born, lives and works in Adelaide, South Australia

“My work as a travel photographer focuses on journeys undertaken in sympathy with environment and culture. Travel is a life experience, an education, and my images seek to depict the personal wonder of discovery.”

My story

The arrival of a new millennium was the perfect excuse for a change. Early in 2000, after a successful twenty-year career in Information Technology, I turned to more artistic pursuits.

Blessed with the “travel chromosome” and a passion for exploring new destinations, I had years of photographic material and stories but no outlet for sharing them.

The solution?  I studied for a Diploma in Freelance Travel Photojournalism, and then embarked on a new and exciting parallel career path.

2001: First major travel story published, "When in Rome"

2002: Four-page feature, Australian Photography

2002: Established regular freelance contributor to many major international travel magazines

2003: Writer of the Year, IgoUgo (then world's largest freelance travel writer's web site)

2004: First solo photography exhibition, Adelaide

2005: Established successful web-based travel stock photography site

2018: Fifteenth successful solo exhibition of travel photography

Dave has a permanent exhibition space at Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills
